Singapore PM Wong Strengthens China Ties Amid Global Polarization

DHP Radio, Singapore – Singapore’s new Prime Minister Lawrence Wong made China his first stop outside Southeast Asia — and the message was crystal clear: Singapore wants a bigger voice on the global stage.

In his meeting with Xi Jinping, Wong pushed for stronger multilateralism and a rules-based global order. Singapore is doubling down on diplomacy in era of war and tariff fights

Wong isn’t just continuing tradition — he’s expanding it. Xi is now the only Chinese leader to have met all four Singaporean prime ministers.

That includes Lee Kuan Yew, who backed China’s economic reforms before it became the giant it is today.

Singapore also reaffirmed its one China policy, opposing Taiwan’s independence — a delicate but deliberate move.

Wong made it clear: Singapore stands by the framework that has guided Asia’s balance for decades.

Singapore, once a colony with zero resources, is now a top-tier financial and diplomatic hub.

Wong’s Beijing visit isn’t just symbolism. It’s a statement of ambition from a tiny state with global clout.

Amid a world pulling apart, Singapore is betting on neutrality, influence, and smart alliances. Wong is signaling: small doesn’t mean silent.
