March 3, 2013 I’m So Sorry Mix
I’m so sorry. Last week I had some technical problems. No. I’ll be honest. I borrow someone’s laptop to stream the show live. That person was using it that night, so I was unable to broadcast a live show. This week, there was a problem with the stream. Last week, I felt some real love from a listener. While I thank you so much for sending love when I post my mixes. I make them with love in mind and it is heartening to know people appreciate them. However, as much as I appreciate the love, it is also a responsibility. When I can’t make a show, I just realized how I am really letting my listeners down. So, for the people who listen to my music and enjoy the music I play from amazing artists, thank you, this mix is dedicated to you. This mix will not appear on Mixcloud, only on DHPRadio.com. If you enjoy the music I feature, feel free to contact me at http://www.facebook.com/deeepdownunder. Peace.

Sorry for the hiatus! It is a great Sydney summer and I have been so busy!!! This week I thought I would just explore, emancipating myself from ‘genre bondage’ — you will hear me play anything from Reggae, Funk, Electronica, Bossa Nova, through to House! It is a real showcase of beautiful music. Sorry for the short show this week — I had some technical problems, I had to end the broadcast. Make sure you check out and like our Facebook page — http://www.facebook.com/deeepdownunder — Catch you next week! Peace!

Keeping on from my last show’s house tip — I kept the dancefloor vibe happening, but worked it down with some beautiful songs. This week I played for 3 hours — which is long, but nice. It gives you a chance to express yourself musically and if there is a crowd, you can influence the crowd by slowly building it up. In my case I built it down! Happy New Year! Have you come to the point where you really can’t be bothered going to parties anymore? The music is largely the same, the people are the same. But I went to see Masters at Work for New Years, and I must say they really know how to play a party. So, this week, I thought I would just do a house set — none of the other weird stuff I play. Had a good time this week — well, I always have a good time, but this week I found some old music gathering dust in my garage! Most of it is late 90′s house. If I were to play most of it, I would sound like a Ministry of Sound CD circa 2000! Not that there’s anything wrong with that! After last week, I thought this week would be more deep. I usually try to have a rough idea what I will be playing each week. This week, there was no such thing. I just dug deep and decided to listen to some of those real odd songs that you hardly ever play. Sometimes they are sold on e-bay, sometimes handed out to friends, but tonight I have tried to make use of them. For all the abstract music, I really felt energetic when I returned to a 4/4 beat. Started off the show with a classic club track, “Chime” by Orbital. Got into a house set, peaking with another classic, “Love & Happiness” by singer India. Went down tempo for a little while. Also played another great track from Australia by producer Paul Mac. The remix is by Stephen Allkins, AKA [Love] Tattoo, a Sydney veteran. He has been DJing since 1976! This week I began the show with a tribute to Terry Callier. I must admit, I do not know the man; I only discovered his music two years ago. It was such amazing and moving music, the news of his passing this week certainly touched me. I dedicate 30 minutes to the musical legacy he leaves behind, as he eternally rests in peace. Kept it downtempo today; decided to leave the uptempo to this week’s guest DJ Phil Toke. Played a song by the Australian singer Princess Freesia. I also couldn’t help going back to the early 90′s pop sound! Love it! Now for special guest DJ Phil Toke. A local favourite of mine, Phil is hosting Detroit DJ Alton Miller this Sunday. This week I thought I would indulge. So I sat back and just played a wide array of music. Started off really soulful, including a new remix from Los Angeles-based artist Mark de Clive Lowe. This guy is from LA, but came from New Zealand and makes regular trips to Australia! Taken aback by an album I purchased last week by Alfonso Lovo, I decided to switch into a Latin mood. The song “La bomba de neutron” is one of my favourites from the album, which was originally performed in Nicaragua. From there, I just exploded into some dubstep. I know dubstep gets some of my friends really annoyed, which is why I played it. Not all dubstep is bad, although a lot of it is, in my opinion. Sorry about last week; I had some urgent work that needed to be done! Today I have started with a couple of tracks awesome band from Melbourne known as Hiatus Kaiyote, who released an album Tawk Tomahawk this year. These guys are going to be big! Got into some disco, and felt an opportunity to play my friend DJ Silvio’s edit of Inner Life’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”. Silvio is a Sydney DJ who was one of the founders of the famous Paradise Lost warehouse parties in Sydney. Warmed into some house, and decided to play two old songs (1997) which may be a bit cheesy, but we can all point to two tracks that introduced us to house music:) By the way, make sure you check out and like our Facebook page — http://www.facebook.com/deeepdownunder — Catch you next week!
